Nursing Mothers of Raleigh (NMR) rents the hospital-grade SMB pump from Ameda-Hollister for $2.50/day for the first 15 days and then $1.00/day, plus NC tax and a $7.00 cleaning fee.
The mother needs a kit (the tubing, fittings and the bottle) in order to use the pump. Many mothers have kits because they pumped while in the hospital. New ones can be purchased when the pump is rented.
NMR requires a $67.00 deposit at the time of rental, but the entire deposit is refunded when the pump is returned.
NMR sells the One-Hand Pump for $30.00. Mothers who need to pump on an occasional basis usually find this inexpensive pump to be adequate.
NMR sells the Nurture III small dual electric breast pump by Bailey Medical Pump Company. The pump has three vacuum settings and requires that the mother move her finger to operate the suck release mechanism. It sells for $150 retail, but because NMR is a non-profit group, their price is $100. The pump has a five-year guarantee and no case.
NMR sells the Purely Yours dual electric breast pump with an opening in the bottom that permits it to be run on batteries. The pump has a one-year guarantee and is sold three different ways:
Prices include 7% North Carolina sales tax. NMR volunteers carry replacement parts for the pumps they sell and are available to answer questions. If a pump fails during the guarantee period, the mother simply picks up a brand-new replacement pump and the NMR volunteer takes the responsibility of returning the faulty pump. (It is also possible to purchase Ameda-Hollister Elite and Lact-E pumps by special order.)
